Your TestimoniesHere are just a few of the hundreds of supportive comments we've had so far:
My father will have to travel over 10 miles to have cancer treatment at Mount Vernon hospital. By the time my father receives his treatment he will have attended three different hospitals. The tests were undertaken at Central Middlesex hospital but he had to attend Northwick Park hospital to receive the results as Central Middlesex no longer have the facilities. My father attended Northwick Park hospital to receive the awful news but has now been informed to receive treatment he has to attend Mount Vernon hospital as Northwick Park hospital does not have the facilities. If the facilities at Mount Vernon are taken away, how far are sick people expected to travel just to try and get better? I am very concerned and angry that the treatment my father needs seems to be moving further and further away. J. B. from Ruislip
Having watched my wife die of cancer in Mount Vernon / Michael Sobell last year I am eternally grateful that the fantastic service and support of the NHS staff was local. Please keep it local, both for the sake of the sick and their carers and relatives. S.C. from Ruislip
I am 72 years old living in Hillingdon and presently undergoing treatment at Mount Vernon. It is the most convenient place to get to and moving the hospital as proposed will cause great travelling problems and inconvenience for elderly patients like me and other fellow patients in a similar situation. PLEASE SAVE THE HOSPITAL. H. R. from Uxbridge
The Cancer Unit at Mount Vernon is absolutely superb and needs to remain local to the community it serves. I had a personal friend who was looked after with great care until his death four years ago and a member of staff whose useful life was also extended and made more endurable by the excellent staff at their local hospital, Mount Vernon, please keep it open. B. L. from Pinner
I am a cancer patient at the hospital and have no wish to travel to Hatfield. Keep the local MVH. L. W. from Pinner
As a current cancer patient I have only the highest regard and praise for the wonderful help for so many people. When I was in Dawson ward in August a youngster from Manchester came for his operation and his father told me that the location had been chosen after exhaustive enquiries about Mount Vernon’s reputation. G. M. from Ruislip
Having recovered after having received radio-therapy at Mt. Vernon following cancer surgery over 10 years ago, I would find it deplorable were this service to be removed from this esteemed and highly valued local hospital H. K. from Ruislip
I work at Mount Vernon in the evenings. I also had radiotherapy treatment there in 2003, and my mother also worked there about 35 years ago. It would be criminal to close the cancer unit down. I was treated very well there by the staff. E. A. from Pinner
Having just been treated at Mount Vernon for Breast Cancer with Chemo and Radiotherapy the thought of a 45 minute journey would put more stress on an already stressed patient. Please keep me informed. A. S. from Ruislip
Why should people who live in Brent have to travel to the moon to get treatment!! It's bad enough having to travel to Mount Vernon let alone further a field!! Save the unit at Mount Vernon A. P. from Camden
Cancer patients need to treated with respect and compassion... this includes putting treatment services where they can really access it and not too far away. L. A. from Brent
My Husband was treated for cancer between Mt Vernon and UCLH, he always preferred going to Mt. Vernon where the staff were wonderful. Unfortunately my husband died 5 years ago but the care he received was wonderful...Long live Mount Vernon!! D. K. from Ruislip
I lost my husband due to Cancer last Christmas. Without Mount Vernon, what was a painful time, in both senses of the word, would have been a nightmare. I back the campaigners with all my heart. S. B. from Ruislip
Good news about Hatfield! I have special cause to support Mt Vernon. They have been wonderful in treating, and supporting, my husband who has prostate cancer. Also I, as a teacher, spent over 20 years raising funds for the Scanner centre -why should they take it away from our locality? P. L. from Eastcote
Chiltern and South Bucks residents need MVH services as well D. S. from Beaconsfield
I was treated for cancer at Mt. Vernon and return every 6 months for a check-up. As I am 81 years old, the idea of travelling further is not appealing T. J. from Ickenham
The cancer services must be retained at Mount Vernon because: 1. Re-location would inevitably break up the highly skilled & experienced medical, nursing and support team; 2. It would be a totally unacceptable waste of NHS funds and publicly donated funds invested in the state of the art scanners and bunkers; 3. Many patients will face appalling journeys by public transport to a remote hospital. For some radiotherapy & chemotherapy patients this would require an overnight stay because train delays and inevitable hospital delays would make the experience incredibly daunting. Some will not have the strength to do it and will not get treatment. I believe that the campaign will succeed and I wish you well. R. D. from Uxbridge
I received excellent care at Mount Vernon Hospital while having radiotherapy treatment a few years ago. Even from High Wycombe it was the most convenient hospital to attend. P. M. from High Wycombe
